JK performs worst in pvt sector job creationIn a concern, Jammu and Kashmir figures second least performing state in terms of private sector job creation. The state’s share stands just at 1579 in about nine lakh positions filled across India in quarter 4, 2015-16.

According to a survey, ‘State-wise job openings in India in Q4 FY16’ released by Assocham, JK’s share in private sector jobs has been a negligible 0.2 per cent. J&K has figured on number 19, only before Odisha among 20 states surveyed by the industry body.

The survey conducted for January to March quarter in almost all the Indian states except seven north eastern states, Goa and New Delhi.

Bottom five states in terms of job openings, as per the survey, are Chhattisgarh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Odisha.

Services sector in the state has been the highest performer perhaps due to increasing number of startups particularly in the food and hotels segment.

The manufacturing sector has witnessed 291 jobs followed by IT sector with 220. The construction and real estate sector in the state has generated 132 jobs followed by 106 and 102 by ‘other sectors’, and banking, financial services and insurance respectively.

Karnataka has topped the pan-India list with a total of around 2.16 lakh jobs followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu with 2 lakh and 90,000 jobs created respectively.

IT sector which has highest percentage of jobs across India, has performed extremely poor in JK.
