The introduction of morning and evening flights will increase operating hours at the airport and reduce peak time pressure.

The airport employees would also get a chance to reduce their burden as the authority has scheduled shifts in their duties.

“We started with two airways Indigo and GoAir and the experience was very good. People have welcomed the move and who wanted to have early morning and evening flights. Indigo has started evening flights from today while GoAir will from June,” he added.

The first flight departed at 6:40 a.m. while as the last evening fight departs at 5: 30 in the evening.

The usual schedule of flights earlier was 10:45 a.m. for morning flights and 3:00 p.m. for last flights.

Sources said the employees in the morning shift are supposed to report at 4: 00 a.m. and for evening shift employees, the timing to report office is 10:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India and the Indian Air Force have given their nod to expansion of Srinagar ‘International’ Airport to upgrade its facilities and runway area to facilitate operation of additional flights and night landings.

The Srinagar Airport—established on 16700 sq.mt area—is facing space constraints and inadequate parking area for aircraft landings and take-offs.

The Srinagar Airport is under direct operational control of the IAF which controls its air traffic and landing strip and also the facilities of fire-fighting and crash activities, apart from the airspace.
