Court asks police to probe Lal Singh’s 1947 remarksA local Court on Wednesday asked Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu to conduct probe into a complaint seeking registration of FIR against Forest Minister Lal Singh for allegedly threatening members of Gujjar community at former’s official residence in Jammu last month.

“It is proper to send this complaint in terms of section 202 Cr.PC and it is necessary that IGP should conduct inquiry himself and the detailed report that is the outcome of the inquiry be submitted to this Court within a period of one month in a sealed cover,” City Judge Jammu, M S Manhas, directed.

In the complaint filed by Mumtaz Ahmed and Others, the complainants have sought registration of FIR against Lal Singh for threatening them by saying “(O Gujjars! Have you forgotten 1947?” In 1947, about five lakh Muslims were killed in communal riots in Jammu. JNF
