Govt, National Conference slug it out over Kud gunfight
Opposition terms it fake encounter
The killing of a suspected militant at Kud on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway created an uproar in the Legislature today as the Opposition National Conference blamed the government for killing the youth in a “fake encounter.”
However, the J&K Government maintained in both the Houses that the youth killed in the gunfight on Monday was a militant.
On Monday evening, a woman was killed and two injured when a suspected militant travelling in a bus from Srinagar attacked a joint check-post at Kud on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The police said the militant, later identified as Tanveer Sultan of Bemina, Srinagar, was killed in retaliatory firing by the CRPF.
Amid noisy scenes over other issues in the Assembly, PDP MLA Noor Mohammad asked the government to give a statement on the killing. As the PDP member raised the issue in the Lower House, NC members led by Ali Mohammad Sagar also urged the government to come out with the facts about the incident.
