Ruckus over Sadhvi Prachi's remarks on MuslimsThe Legislative Council today witnessed a ruckus over the remarks of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sadhvi Prachi against Muslims.
As the council proceeding began, National Conference’s member of Legislative Council (MLC) Shehnaz Ganai raised the issue and demanded the Upper House should condemn her statement. The MLC termed Sadhvi’s statement as unfortunate.
The Congress MLC also supported Ganai and demanded the House should condemn the statement. This led to an argument between the BJP MLCs and opposition members.
BJP MLC Vibodh Gupta asked opposition members not to “vitiate” the atmosphere.
As the ruckus continued Legislative Council Chairman Anayat Ali asked the members of the House to raise the issue during Zero Hour.
State Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar intervened, saying Muslims are a part of the country.
“A report has been carried by newspapers. Whosoever said it, it is wrong,” Akhtar said, adding that Muslims are a part of the country and it is incomplete without them.
“Muslims are equal stakeholders in the country. There is no need to divide this House. Our state is facing many problems and we want to grapple with them. We all have to live in this country as equal stakeholders,” he said. The opposition may bring a resolution in the House against the VHP leader.
