Sugar crisis to end in next two days - Choudhary ZulfkarGovernment on Tuesday said the sugar crisis in Kashmir valley was going to end within two days as 2000 quintal sugar consignment has arrived and all the depots will have sugar available.
The information was revealed by Minister for CAPD, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali in the upper house after the legislators cutting across party lines cornered him regarding the unavailability of sugar in the department depots.
The minister said the tender for procuring sugar from outside the Valley has been finalized and the first consignment of 2000 quintals has reached here yesterday.
“In next two days all the depots will have sugar available,” he said.
NC MLC Sajad Kitchloo had sought an assurance from the minister that sugar will be available to consumers during the ongoing holy month of Ramadhan.
The minister also said that 2700 new Fair Price Shops (FPS) will be set-up across the state soon. “I assure the house that 2700 new FPS will be set up in order to make easy availability of food grains to common people,” he said.
Earlier, legislator Saif-u-din Bhat highlighted that several areas in district Budgam in Central Kashmir have been unable to receive food grains while MLCs from the opposition also raised the issue that people in areas like Gurez don’t have access to ration even during summer months.
