Mehbooba Mufti meets Rajnath Singh in wake of Kashmir unrest
Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday urged the Centre to reach out to the people of the troubled state and talk to all stakeholders.
“Jammu and Kashmir can become a bridge between India and Pakistan, if proper dialogue process is initiated,” the Jammu & Kashmir chief minister said after a meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
She met the Home Minister in the wake of unrest in the valley following the death of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. At least 50 people have lost their lives and normal life has been paralysed since his encounter last month.
“Many people have died in current cycle of violence in J&K. Centre needs to apply balm. They are our own kids,” she said.
“I believe there is a need to heal wounds of people, to initiate dialogue with the people of J&K,” the chief minister said after the meeting.
She also evoked Vajpayee’s tenure and said that the Modi government, which has a got a huge mandate, should take forward talks process initiated by former Prime Minister Vajpayee.
