BJP to strengthen base in Kashmir
After the BJP bid to strengthen its base took a hit during the unrest, the party has now resumed activities in the Valley with an improvement in the situation. The party held a series of functions in Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla and Kupwara districts recently.
BJP state general secretary (organisation) Ashok Koul, who chaired the party functions across districts, said the party had again asked its ministers in the state to “adopt” districts in the Kashmir valley and reach out to the people. “We have asked our party workers to reach out to households in their areas, listen to their demands and problems and forward these to the ministers concerned,” he said.
In May, the BJP ministers of the Jammu region had “adopted” districts of the Valley and started holding “public durbars” in an effort to reach out to the people.
As the BJP has so far failed to win any election in the Valley, Koul said the party was eyeing the panchayat polls which are likely to be held in March-April. “I wish to see our workers as elected representatives in the panchayat elections,” he added.
