NIA trying to frame leaders on Zakir Naik pattern: Resistance Group

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Monday said the National Investigating Agency (NIA) is being “used as a war weapon” against it “with the main objective to harass the leadership.”
In a statement, the JRL said the NIA frames and raids residences of pro-freedom leaders and activists “as a pre-planned psychological crackdown so that they surrender and stop voicing the sentiments of their nation.”

“Although this agency (NIA) is being projected as an autonomous body, its services are however being utilized to terrorize the leadership and defame and discredit the ongoing freedom movement,” the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik said. “They are trying to frame false cases against the resistance leaders and put pressure on them to weaken the resistance movement.”
The JRL said “all these state-sponsored tactics and coercive measures won’t deter us from pursuing our mission, nor would these coercions, suppressive and aggressive measures make us surrender.”
Referring to famous religious scholar Dr Zakir Naik, the resistance leadership said he too was “forced to leave country after framing of concocted stories against him. In a similar manner, authorities, in order to defame freedom movement, are planning to frame fake cases against the leadership.”

The leaders warned of “dire consequences if this (NIA raids) is not stopped forthwith.”
“We are deliberating over this issue seriously and are in continuous consultations with all sections of the society,” they said, adding: “We will chalk out a policy to resist this move.”
The statement said for the past several days, NIA is “unnecessarily questioning Muhammad Altaf Shah and Shahid-ul-Islam.” “During NIA raids in Srinagar, no hawala money or any objectionable material was seized, but through their mischievous plans, they are trying to get hold of leadership on fictitious charges as was done in Dr Zakir Naik’s case,” the JRL said.
“This has proved beyond any doubt that NIA is not an autonomous agency nut a tool in the hands of fanatical authorities in New Delhi; and they take undue advantage of this agency against its opponents or those pursuing freedom struggle in the state,” the statement read.
The leaders said Kashmir issue is a reality and “through these repressive measures, they won’t be able to achieve any good and it is our sincere suggestion to authorities in New Delhi that instead of meddling through these feverish means, they should address the core issue and provide an opportunity to ascertain the aspirations of people about political destiny of state.”
“It will definitely make an end to prevailing political uncertainty in the state and also boost economy of Indian citizens,” the JRL said.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik said “we are a peace-loving nation and deeply enthusiastic for lasting peace, but the Indian leadership needs to take steps and play a key role.”
“Better for Indian leadership to shun its haughty and stubborn attitude. India can play a leading role and help in creating a peaceful atmosphere in subcontinent,” they said.
