Panic at NIT as Pak group hacks institute website

A day after Pakistan’s defeat in the ICC Champion’s Trophy against India, Pak Cyber Skullz, a Pakistan-based hacker group, today hacked the official website of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar.
Students of the NIT said the official website was hacked in frustration as Pakistan lost the ICC champion’s Trophy match against India on Sunday.
The hacker group has mentioned on the home page that it hacked the website to “free Kashmir from India.”
The official NIT website www.nitsri.ac.in was hacked around 3:30 pm today, creating panic among students and staff.
The hacker started with ‘GO MODI GO’ and then wrote: “Do you know why you got hacked? Free Kashmir. Freedom is our goal. This institutionalised impunity with which the killings of civilians by military and police forces in Jammu and Kashmir continues should be a source of shame for India which propagates to be a democracy”.
Calling it ‘militarised governance’, the hacker said they (Kashmiris) just wanted ‘freedom from evils of the Indian Army’
“Stop killing children, raping women and imprisoning men. Every day, 100s of innocent people are abused, raped and even killed in Kashmir by the Indian Army, a third of the deaths are children. We don’t want war, take back your men, your guns and go back where you came from,” the hacked website read.
An NIT student said: “It was shocking for all of us when we suddenly saw the website of our institute with abusive language against our country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The news spread in the campus like wildfire.”
“It shows the frustration of Pakistan and it’s mindset towards India, particularly towards Kashmir. Who is Pakistan to decide what Kashmiris want and how they are living here?” he added.
Meanwhile, the institute administration was unaware of the hacking till late evening.
“Someone informed me, but I do not have any information about it,” said FA Mir, Registrar, NIT, Srinagar, when asked if the website was hacked.
The NIT was last year in the news after clashes erupted between local and non-local students when the latter celebrated the defeat of the Indian cricket team in the T-20 world cup semifinal between India and the West Indies.
