Twin militant attacks in south Kashmir, Police officer wounded as MLA’s house stoned

Suspected militants fired upon police party near general bus stand in main town Anantnag on Friday evening.
According to locals, a loud bang was also heard as the firing was on.
There was however no report of any injuries, they said.
“Firing by militants was repulsed by police near bus stand Anantnag. No loss of life and property was reported. Area is under cordon,” said deputy inspector general of (DIG) South Kashmir range, S P Pani.
Earlier, militants had fired upon a police vehicle in Bonigham area of Qazigund on this afternoon. However, none was injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, A police officer sustained injuries after being hit by a stone in his head during stone-pelting by youth on the house of a legislator in Shopian district on Friday, an official said.
He said that youth pelted stones at the residence of MLA Shopian Muhammad Yousuf Bhat near Meemandar area this evening.
“Soon, police rushed to the spot to disperse the youth. A stone hit a police officer on his head,” the official said, adding that the injured police officer was rushed to a hospital.
Talking to Kashmir Post, MLA Shopian confirmed that stones were hurled at his residence. “I was in Srinagar when the incident took place. A police officer was injured,” he said.
Senior superintendent of police AS Dinkar said: “Police had gone there to arrest some youth and the officer was injured after a stone hit his head. He is fine now.”
