Woman dies of H1N1 at SKIMS taking Swine flu death toll to 8

A 72-year-old woman from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, who had tested positive for H1N1, died at Sheri-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, officials said.
“The woman was H1N1 positive and died on Friday. She was 72 and was a case of comorbidities Ca-Esophagus with Sepsis,” a doctor at SKIMS told Kashmir Post.
With her death, the death toll due to Swine Flu in Valley has reached to eight.
The woman is the third patient from Ganderbaldistrict and fifth female to have died of Swine Flu in the valley.
Doctors said the woman was admitted in SKIMS on November 18 and was suffering from cancer.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Syed Amin Tabish was not available for comments while Dr AG Ahangaris out of the station.
As per a communiqué by the hospital, 14 H1N1 patients are admitted in SKIMS.
“At least 45 Swine Flu cases were admitted to the hospital so far. Of them eight have died and 23 discharged till now,” it states.
On November 16, a female patient from Soura died in the SKIMS.
Earlier, on November 10, a 50-year-old male patient from Ganderbal had died of H1N1 influenza at SKIMS.
In October, three women from Budgam district, Shahzada, Ifra and Rubeena, two males Haji Abdul Rashid, 65 of Ganderbal and Mohammad Shafi, 50 of Fatekadal, Srinagar succumbed to the seasonal flu in the SKIMS.
The doctors have warned of a rise in Swine Flu cases due to prevailing cold weather condition in the Valley.
They said the viral surge in the atmosphere in the autumn and winter leads to increase in the infections.
