Neglected Lolab valley receives 30 minute electricity every 24 hours

Almost all villages of Lolab valley in district Kupwara are reeling under darkness for last two months, the resident say that government has turned a blind eye towards their problems.
Residents of Lolab, known as Wadi-e-Lolab, said the health services are in a shambles and they have to ferry patients to Kupwara and Srinagar for treatment. Lolab is a combination of three valleys – Potnai, Brunai and Kalaroos – and its headquarters is situated at Sogam.
“Come winter and the PDD starts showing their true colour. At a time when the search operations by government forces have become a norm and forces barge into your rooms without telling you, the darkness adds to our miseries as we cannot move in our own houses. The unscheduled long power cuts have made our nights nightmarish,” a student of Sogam told Kashmir Post. “Nobody is listening to our sufferings.”
The residents said that Lolab despite having three receiving station reels under total darkness for last months. “We have 30 minute power supply in 24 hours,” they said adding that they have lodged protests, but all in vain.
Residents of Chandigam area said time and again they have requested the local MLA, but there was no redressal. “But we are paying power tariff every month,” they said.
Villagers of Lassipora said they are facing acute drinking water shortage for past four weeks. “For past over a month the water supply has been badly hit making the life of over five thousand souls miserable,” a trader of Lassipora told Kashmir Post.
Residents Aften, Warnow, Devar and other areas said that health facilities in their areas are in shambles and there is no accountability. They said there is dearth of doctors, para-medical staff and live saving drugs in sub-district hospital Sogam.
Officials in DC office Kupwara said they were trying to solve the problems. “We are looking into the problems faced by the people of Lolab,” they said.
