Pellet terror returns, 4 teens among 10 pellet-hit admitted at SMHS

At least ten youth received injuries due to use of pellet guns Tuesday while two others were hit by bullets after the encounter between government forces and militants in Shopian area of South Kashmir.
Nineteen year old Farooq Ahmad was among those hit by pellets.
“I was at home and a young boy knocked at our door and said that Farooq has received pellets. When we reached the spot he was not able to see and fell unconscious,” Farooq’s elder brother Mudasir Ahmad said. A 10-th class student, Farooq, who remained admitted at SMHS hospital received pellet injury in the right eye. He was recuperating at the ophthalmology ward of the hospital. “Our father died last year in June and now we have landed in another tragedy,” rued Mudasir.
Two youth from Shopian have also received bullet injury during the clashes. “Imran, 22 of Kallar village has bullet injury on chest and Mohammad Ayoub of Chatragam has wound in the abdomen,” said doctors of the SMHS hospital.
Another young man from a Shopian village, a shopkeeper, was among those who received dozens of pellets. He received pellets in the left eye as the encounter was going.
Mukhtar Ahmad ‘s wife Zamrooda was at home at Hajan Pulwama with her one-year-old daughter when their neighbors appeared in the courtyard and informed her that her husband has been hit by pellets during clashes. However he was taken to a local hospital by a youth and later shifted to Srinagar.
Waiting outside the trauma theatre of SMHS hospital, Zamrooda said that her husband received at least 30 pellets on the body. “Clashes were triggered after the killing of a woman at Shopian. He received pellets all over the body including face and neck,” said Zamrooda.
An elderly woman from Balpora Shopian, who attended her pellet-hit relative at the hospital, said that there is a camp of forces in the locality. As the encounter raged last evening force personnel “came out and fired indiscriminately on civilians.”
Medical Superintendent SMHS, Saleem Tak, told Kashmir Post that they received twelve youth including two who were hit by bullets. “Ten have pellet injuries including four teenagers and two have bullet injuries. All are undergoing treatment here,” he said.
