Home Minister Minister Rajnath Singh to visit Valley in June

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is visiting the Kashmir valley early next month to push forward the peace and dialogue process announced by him on May 26.
He is expected to make a major announcement on the extension of Ramadan ceasefire which he had announced on May 16, on the eve of the start of the holy month, with the stated objective of creating an atmosphere of peace in the restive Valley and “to help the peace-loving Muslims observe Ramadan in a peaceful environment”.
In a significant development, the Home Minister announced his two-day Kashmir visit, likely to begin on June 7, on the day when the joint resistance leadership of Kashmiri separatists sought clarity on Delhi’s talking points.
The day also brought a pleasant surprise when the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan held talks on the hotline and recommitted themselves to the 2003 ceasefire on the borders and the Line of Control in letter and spirit.
During his visit, Rajnath will review the security situation. The main thrust, however, will be on giving a fillip to the peace and dialogue process, according to highly placed sources in the state government.
Sources said the Home Minister would take feedback on the impact of the ceasefire and also the public response to the dialogue that he had proposed to the Hurriyat Conference and Pakistan. They said Rajnath was keen on building on the government’s dialogue initiative with the separatists and Pakistan.
