Govt Employee’s appearance in Supreme Court Case on Article 370 Abrogation leads to Termination

A government employee in Jammu and Kashmir was suspended on Friday for appearing before the Supreme Court in an ongoing hearing on the abrogation of Article 370.

The employee, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, is a senior lecturer in political science at a government school in Srinagar. He is also an advocate and appeared in the apex court on Wednesday, arguing for the petitioners in the case.

The government order suspending Bhat said that he had violated the provisions of the Jammu & Kashmir Civil Service Regulations, Jammu & Kashmir Government Employees Conduct Rules, and J&K Leave Rules.

The order said that Bhat had “misused” his official position by appearing in the Supreme Court without prior permission from the government. It also said that his actions had brought “disrepute” to the government.

Bhat has denied the allegations against him and said that he had appeared in the Supreme Court in his personal capacity as an advocate. He has also said that he had informed the government about his appearance in the court.

The suspension of Bhat has sparked outrage in Kashmir. Many people have criticized the government for suppressing dissent and for targeting those who speak out against its policies.

The abrogation of Article 370 was a controversial move that stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status. The move was opposed by many people in Kashmir, who believe that it has eroded their autonomy and rights.

The Supreme Court is currently hearing a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370. The hearing is expected to continue for several months.
