JK students’ harassment: Government nominates liaison officer

Starts 24X7 helpline numbers

The state government Wednesday informed the Legislative Council that a special liaison officer has been nominated to look into the cases of harassment meted out to the students of Jammu and Kashmir, studying in other states.

In a written reply to the question of Yasir Reshi, the Minister in charge (home) said that Principal Resident Commissioner, J&K has been nominated as Liaison officer to look into and subsequently intimate any incident of alleged harassment to the students of the Jammu and Kashmir, studying in other states.
“The Principal Resident Commissioner has also been entrusted with the job to coordinate with all the concerned agencies, departments of the concerned state government with a view to ensure safety and security of the students of the state pursuing studies in other states,” minister said, adding “ helpline numbers have also been setup in the office of Principal Resident Commissioner, J&K, New Delhi for reporting any incident of harassment.”
He also informed that the similar measures have been taken to prevent alleged harassment of residents of the state working in other parts of the country. “On the similar lines, we have also established same helpline numbers for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, working in other states,” the reply stated and added that the police department has also started 24X7 helpline in police control rooms of Srinagar and Jammu.
“To streamline and expedite the intimation process, the state police department has also started a 24X7 helpline in the police control rooms in Srinagar and Jammu to assist the students and citizens, studying or working outside the state for entertaining their grievances,” minister said while replying to the query.
He further said that these helpline numbers have been set up to entertain the grievances of the students, besides bringing the same into the notice of the concerned so as to ensure their timely redressal.
