Flood-hit City gets underweight, expired LPG cylinders

The City devastated by September floods is fed underweight and expired cooking gas cylinders, a deal feared to be disastrous for the consumers. The Legal Metrology Department during inspection came across such cylinders and registered a case.

“In an instance at Bemina, one truck carrying LPG cylinders to a Gas agency was intercepted and many cooking gas cylinders were inspected for mandatory declarations as well as for net contents. The LPG cylinders were coming from the Letpora bottling plant. Some cylinders were found expired and carrying a mandatory retest date of B/2013. Even the cylinders were found underweight. The cylinders belong to Bharat Petroleum Corporation. The notice was sent to sales officer of the oil company and the offender shall be punished once the responsibility is fixed,” said an official handout from Legal Metrology Department.
“The field executives of Legal Metrology department under the supervision of Dy Controller Kashmir also conducted surprise inspection of different markets of City Srinagar and booked a number of erring traders for violating Legal Metrology laws/Liquefied Petroleum Gas Rules.”
