Land records to soon go online in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to make land records available online to enable all land holders of the state to get a copy of their land holdings from the Internet.

“The dream is to enable all land holders in the state to get a copy of their land holdings from the Internet without the intervention of any revenue official,” an official spokesman of the Revenue Department said.

He said that the move would bring the “much needed transparency” in the sector as it will update the website on account of sale, inheritance and mortgages of the land.

He said that an ambitious project to provide digital land titling guarantee to the people of Jammu and Kashmir has been launched with the first step of putting out a Request For Proposal (RFP) in the public domain.

The project includes Data Entry, Digitisation (Vectorisation) of Cadastral Maps, survey, re-survey to update the land records, integration with record of rights (RORs), management of old revenue documents, development of web-based GIS for running various applications together with training and capacity building, he said.

“For ensuring that the project is completed in a time- bound manner, proposals for outsourcing this entire work to competent and experienced IT service providers have been invited by January 24 next year,” he said.
