Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) celebrated with religious fervor

Thousands throng Hazratbal to have glimpse of holy relic * Processions taken out across J&K

Amid chilling cold, Eid-e-Milad, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), was Sunday celebrated with full religious fervor across the State as thousands of devotees thronged revered Hazratbal shrine here to have a glimpse of the holy relic.

Most of the worshipers, however, were aghast over improper arrangements by Waqf Board like non-availability of heating system and hot water for ablution. Many people, including women, complained that thieves gave them a tough time as they stole mobile phones, ornaments and cash.
Hundreds of people had reached the shrine Saturday evening to participate in the night long prayers and to have a first glimpse of holy relic that was displayed after Fajr (pre-dawn) prayers. Thousands of people gathered at the shrine to offer congregational afternoon prayers and to have glimpse of holy relic. The shrine was pleasantly decorated.
Special arrangements were put in place by Traffic Police for smooth movement of people to and from the shrine. Besides private and public transport, State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) had made arrangements for ferrying devotees. Divisional administration had made arrangements of security and other necessary facilities.
The devotees got emotional and raised their hands for prayers reciting Quranic verses and Duroods while having the glimpse of holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) after Zuhr congregational prayers.
Various religious, social, business and political organizations had erected banners on roads and shops outside Hazratbal shrine, greeting people on the occasion while local traders decorated the markets and announced discount on various items.
The devotees, who had gone for night long stay and those who reached the shrine at afternoon prayers expressed their anger against Waqf Board for improper arrangements. “Inside the shrine, there were sufficient arrangements, but outside it was difficult to stay. Many of my relatives were outside and they faced lot of difficulties due to intense cold,” said Muzamil Rather, a resident of Pampore town of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Many other devotees complained that in absence of hot water they had to face a tough time. “Hundreds of devotees performed ablution with cold water as Waqf Board had made no arrangements for hot water,” said Saira, a women devotee from old city.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Vice-Chairman Waqf Board, M Y Qadri said that they had made special arrangements for the devotees to ensure smooth conduct of congregational prayers. “As far as complaints regarding non-availability of hot water for ablution, that is not possible. We had managed 14 gas heaters for the pilgrims who had assembled in the premises of the shrine,” said Qadri.
Meanwhile, special congregational prayers were also organised at other revered shrines of Kashmir like Jenab Sahab Soura, Asar-e-Sharif Shahri Kalashpora, Khanqah-e-Maula, Ziarat Hazrat Dastgeer Sahab (RA), Syed Yaqoob Sahab (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja Naqshband Sahab (RA) and Ziarat Makhdoom Sahib (RA).
