Indian electronic media part of military operation in J&K – Hurriyat (G)

“If waving Pakistani flag is ‘waging a war’ against India then book millions of Kashmiris”

Indian electronic media part of military operation in J&K - Hurriyat (G)Claiming that the Delhi-based news channels are running a propaganda to defame the “just and genuine” struggle of Kashmiris and are misrepresenting sentiments of Kashmiri people to general masses of India, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the senior separatist leader has alleged that the Indian electronic media houses are part of the military operations going on in Jammu & Kashmir.

While asking the local reporters working for these channels in Srinagar to perform their professional duties in an honest way, Geelani, chairman of Hurriyat (G), in a statement to the press, said: “We understand their compulsions and limitations and we also know that they have no say in the editorial policies of these channels.”

Ayaz Akbar, Hurriyat (G) spokesman, while briefing the press, said its faction doesn’t want to trouble these local reporters working for these channels, “but we want that they (reporters) should make their editors aware about the ground realities of Jammu & Kashmir and make them understand that the issues over which they make hue and cry misleads the Indian population about actual ground situations in Kashmir.”

This process, he claimed, is going on in Jammu & Kashmir since last 68 years.

The spokesman said that the reporters associated with the New Delhi-based news channels in Srinagar for the purpose of earning livelihood, can continue their work, “however while reporting any occasion or incident, they should honestly discharge their professional duties and try to highlight the truth.”

They should, Ayaz said, also try to raise their voice and concern against the negative and false propaganda of these channels. Hurriyat (G) further said that these reporters are “our children and we don’t want to snatch their livelihood.”

While commenting on arrest of Masrat Alam on waving Pakistan flag during Geelani’s welcome rally, the spokesperson said that, “whether it is national day of Pakistan or the cricket match of Pakistan, every child of Kashmir expresses his happiness over their every win.”

He said that if the waving of Pakistan flag is the case of “waging a war against India” then India has to file charges against the millions of Kashmiri people.
