Kashmir Inc seeks tourism via Srinagar-Muzaffarabad

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged the central government to promote tourism via Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route connecting divided parts of the Kashmir.
Senior vice-president, KCCI, Mushtaq Wani said: “During our interaction with Union Home Secretary we raised this issue and urged the central government delegation to allow cross LoC tourism via intra-Kashmir routes.”
“The chamber is a strong advocate of cross-LoC tourism as it would help the trade and commerce of both sides,” he said, adding that currently Kashmir tourism sector is facing lot of problems primarily because there is only one road link connecting Kashmir to rest of the world and this link remains blocked whenever there is inclement weather.”
“If Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road is opened for tourism it would boost our economy,” Wani said, adding that the KCCI is also seeking removal of barriers in cross-LoC trade.
“Intra-Kashmir was started as a CBM, but there is lot work to be done. The list of tradable items needs to be increased, besides there is a dire need of enhanced communication, better trading and banking facilities,” he said, adding that they are hopeful the central government will consider their proposal and let intra-Kashmir trade and tourism flourish.
Pertinently, a business delegation, first from Jammu and Kashmir, is likely to visit Pakistan in May as the government of India has cleared decks for its visit.
As already reported the Central government has cleared decks for the visit of the business delegation from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan and it has conveyed its decision to the stakeholders in the state.
Union Home Secretary, L C Goyal during a recent meeting with constituent members of JKJCCI in Srinagar stated that business leaders from this side can travel to Pakistan during May, sources had said.
