Senior Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt has said that India’s plan to set up separate settlements for Kashmiri Panidts is part of a big conspiracy to sabotage the ongoing freedom movement in the territory.

Masarrat Aalam Butt talking to media persons in Srinagar, today, reiterated that the division of Jammu and Kashmir on communal lines would be opposed, tooth and nail. He said that Kashmir was an internationally accepted dispute, which the international community should resolve as per Kashmiris’ aspirations for sustainable peace in South Asia.

Hurriyet leaders and organizations including the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Nayeem Ahmad Khan in their statements issued in Srinagar thanked the people of Kashmir for observing strike against the plan to establish separate colonies for Pandits. Jammu and Kashmir Islamic Political Party Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Naqash addressing a party meeting in Srinagar said that the Indian conspiracy to divide the territory on communal basis would be spoiled.

A renowned Hindu scholar, Swami Agnivesh in a media interview in New Delhi supported the Kashmiri leaders’ stance against the settlement plan. He called upon India to shun the idea and encourage Pandits’ settlement in their respective places.

People staged anti-India protests at Balakote area of Poonch district over the construction of a post and bathrooms by Indian army on a graveyard despite objections by the locals. The protesters raising anti-India slogans demanded an immediate end to the sacrilegious act.

Hundreds of residents of Badgam district staged a demonstration at Press Enclave in Srinagar, today, to demand rehabilitation at safer places. The protestors said that they were under constant threat of landslides triggered by the recent rains in the district.

In Brussels, Kashmir Council EU Chairman, Ali Raza Syed, in a statement pointed out that there were many women in Kashmir who were waiting for release of their sons, brothers and husbands from illegal detention of India.
