Protests at Kashmir University against Student’s detention
Hundreds of students at Kashmir University Wednesday held protests against the arresting of one of their colleagues during a nocturnal police raid, reports said.
Police arrested Muzamil Farooq Dar, a student of English Department from his rental residence in Sadarbal locality of Hazratbal area.
They said that Muzamil was arrested because of his alleged participation in an anti-Yoga protest some days back.
As the news of his arrest reached his colleagues they assembled and raised slogans against what they called “police highhandedness”. They demanded immediate release of Muzamil.
The protesting students boycotted their classes and amid heavy rains staged sit in favouring the release of Muzamil.
Hailing from Kakapora in Pulwama district, Muzamil is currently in police custody, sources said.
