Minister for Roads and Buildings Syed Altaf Bukhari Wednesday said 800-km road length in Jammu and Kashmir is being black-topped on war-footing.

800-km road length to be macadamized on war-footing - Altaf BukhariDuring his visit to Airport Road here to inspect ongoing macadamization work, he asked the executing agencies to “strictly follow fresh specifications on up-gradation of roads to ensure their durability.”

The Minister said due to extensive damage to road network during the September 2014 floods, the R&B department has adopted fresh specifications for maintenance of roads where tarmacadam depth is two to four inch, depending on condition of a road.

He said to ensure accountability and productive use of the state resources, the Government has also adopted new norms in R&B department according to which contractors would be responsible for maintenance of roads for three years.

Appreciating work of R&B engineers, the Minister said the department would recognize services of dedicated staffers with adequate rewards.

He said contractors whose performance is up to the mark would get a letter of appreciation from the department.

He said besides approving Rs 3500 crore Ring Road projects for Srinagar and Jammu, the Government of India has recently approved projects worth Rs 1000 crore under Central Road Fund (CRF). He said Parimpora-Salamabad (Uri) and Jammu-Chakan-da-Bagh (Poonch) roads are being upgraded under Bharat Mala programme.
