Srinagar-Leh highway open till November 23
The Sonamarg-Zojila stretch of the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway will remain open till November 23 to clear all stranded vehicles.
The road, which is the only surface link connecting Ladakh with the rest of the state through Kashmir, remains closed to traffic during winter due to accumulation of snow on the Sonamarg-Zojila stretch.
The decision to keep the road open till November 23 was taken at a meeting convened under the chairmanship of Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Asgar Hassan Samoon here today.
It was decided that 50 heavy vehicles would ply on the road daily. Starting from November 18, the vehicles would leave alternately from Sonamarg and Zojila.
No heavy vehicle would be allowed to cross Sonamarg and Minimarg after 12 noon, the Divisional Commissioner stated.
