Pandits may get internally displaced tag
The migrant Kashmiri Pandit community may be declared “internally displaced”. The Centre may soon issue a guideline in this regard.
The assurance was given to a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits which met Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh and Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhari here today.
During the meeting, which lasted over two hours, representatives of various Kashmiri Pandit organisations gave suggestions for the rehabilitation of the community.
Sources said the ministers assured the delegation that a guideline declaring Kashmiri Pandits as “internally displaced” would be issued soon. The delegation had objected to the term “migrants” used for Pandits and had urged the government to resolve their problems at the earliest.
They also said out of 6,000 jobs promised under the Prime Minister’s package, only about 1,500 jobs had been provided to Pandits.
The delegation requested that the remaining jobs should be provided by the Central government.
They also sought proper, dignified and secure facilities for the stay of Pandits in Kashmir instead of transit accommodations.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch, Sampoorna Kashmir, Panun Kashmir, All Party Migrant Coordination Committee and the Kashmir Samiti.
