Shahid Afridi wins Indian fans’ hearts with this gesture at Ice Cricket Challenge

Shahid Afridi asked an Indian fan to hold the Tri-colour properly when she asked for a picture with him on the sidelines of Ice Cricket Challenge

Not for nothing Shahid Afridi has big fan following all over the world. The Pakistan all-rounder, fondly called ‘Boom Boom’ Afridi for his swashbuckling batting, on Friday won the hearts of Indian cricket lovers with his gesture towards the Tri-colour.

After leading his team Royals XI to win over Virender Sehwag-led Diamonds XI in the first edition of Ice Cricket Challenge at St Moritz in Switzerland, Afridi found himself surrounded by cricket fans eager to get his autograph and pictures clicked with him.

Among those present, was a girl who along with others approached Afridi for a picture. The Pakistan cricketer obliged her request immediately. However, when he realised that the girl was holding folded Indian flag, he asked her to open it and hold it in a dignified manner before getting a picture clicked with her.

The video, which shows Afridi showing respect to Indian flag, has gone viral on social media.

The 37-year-old has been showered with accolades from cricket fans since then.

Afridi’s Royals defeated Sehwag’s Diamonds by eight wickets in a high-scoring second and final match of the two-match series played on the ice in the backdrop of the Swiss Alps. Diamonds batted first and posted a mammoth 205/5 but Royals made a light of their huge target reaching home with 19 balls to spare.
