CS reviews post-flood relief, rehabilitation in Kashmir

Rs 149 crore disbursed among victims till date

In continuation with the weekly review of rehabilitation measures underway in Kashmir Division for flood victims, Chief Secretary, Muhammad Iqbal Khandey, today took stock of relief and rehabilitation process being undertaken for the flood affected people in a meeting at winter Secretariat here.

Principal Secretary Planning & Development B.R. Sharma, Principal Secretary Finance B.B. Vyas, Principal Secretary PDD A.K. Mehta and other senior officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
Chief Secretary received brief on the latest status from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and through video-conferencing from Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division.
Khandey was informed that till date Rs 149 crore have been disbursed as ex-gratia relief by the government in favour of all those families who were affected in the September floods.
Khandey also got brief from the Deputy Commissioners through video conference about the rehabilitation process being carried out.
The Chief Secretary directed the Deputy Commissioners to speed up the process and ensure that all flood affected families get relief on priority as per norms.
The meeting was informed that most of the 16 digit bank accounts of the affected people have been received and financial assistance as per norms has been transferred to these accounts. Deputy Commissioners were asked to take necessary steps for facilitating the opening of bank accounts of any remaining flood affected person who does not possess a bank account.
While reviewing the status of encroachment around rivers and nallahs in various parts of the valley, the Chief Secretary directed for removal of all such encroachments. He also asked Irrigation and Flood Control department to undertake the necessary protection works at various places especially along the banks of nallahs and rivers.
Regarding the stock and supply position of essentials in valley, the meeting was informed that 774 MT of rice, 2205MT wheat and 1304MT of sugar is available in the godowns of CA&PD, besides 41237MT of rice and 14799 MT of wheat is available in the FCI godowns. It was also given out that 233310 LPG cylinders are in the stock in valley besides sufficient stock of petroleum products is also available.
It was also told that the K.oil quota of September month will be given in the month of December in addition to the normal December quota provided to the consumers of the valley.
