‘Forcible eviction’ of Jammu Muslims a BJP-RSS ploy: Mirwaiz

Bringing about demographic change in the state is on the agenda of RSS and this move seems to be a ploy in that direction.

‘Forcible eviction’ of Jammu Muslims a BJP-RSS ploy - MirwaizThe Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said “persecution” of Jammu Muslims is a “well-planned strategy of the BJP-RSS combine that brings to mind the painful memories of massacre of Muslims in 1947.”

If the “forcible eviction” of Muslims from Jammu areas doesn’t stop now, Mirwaiz said, the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir won’t sit as mute spectators and will be forced to start an agitation against these “malicious designs.”

Addressing a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid here, Mirwaiz said the sacrifices of Jammu Muslims can’t be forgotten ever. “Kashmiris have political, social and religious affinity with Jammu Muslims. Being inalienable part of the fabric of Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmiri Muslims will never leave their Jammu brethren alone and would firmly stand with them in these difficult times,” he said.

Mirwaiz said while Muslims of the State have always stayed away from communal bias and have an enviable history of tolerance and communal amity, “the present dispensation both in New Delhi and in the state is firmly following a policy of persecution based on religion with the aim to  polarize the regions, appease their vote bank and  secure their hold to power.”

“Bringing about demographic change in the state is on the agenda of RSS and this move seems to be a ploy in that direction.  While Jammu Muslims are being driven out of their homes, plans to settle West Pakistan refugees are being hatched,” he said.

Mirwaiz said residential houses have been built on hundreds of kanals of state  forest  land in Trikuta Nagar, Bathindi, Greater Kailash which was sold at throwaway prices under the Roshni Act to influential people. “And in the process illegal sales were made legal.

The canal which runs from Akhnoor to Jammu has been encroached upon and illegally occupied by a specific community and no one is asking them to evict, he said.

Mirwaiz said a delegation of Jammu Muslims met him and apprised him about these details.

The delegation alleged that government was transferring many Muslim officers from Jammu, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Bhaderwah and “replacing them with communally-inclined officers who were threatening Muslim residents to leave their houses and lands.”

He said if the state government “has any qualms of conscience, it should immediately stop this design.”

“This situation demands a collective strategy from Kashmiri resistance leadership,” he said.
