Srinagar on high alert ahead of PM’s visit today
The summer capital –Srinagar is on a high security alert ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit here.
A police official said three-tier security was in place for Modi’s visit and every vehicle entering into Srinagar was undergoing frisking.
Old City here Friday woke up to siege as heavy deployment of police and paramilitary CRPF was deployed in the congested areas.
The locals said concertina wire sealed the main roads while people were asked to stay indoors. “It’s a curfew like situation here,” a Nowhatta man told Greater Kashmir Friday morning.
Some parts of City center along Maisuma are also under siege. Authorities last evening decided to impose restrictions in some Srinagar areas.
Sources said it was decided that restrictions would be laid in areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations including Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, MR Gunj and Khanyar.
The decision in this regard was taken at a high level meeting held ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kashmir visit.
