One Dead, Four Injured in Navyug Tunnel Accident

Srinagar, April 1, 2025 – A tragic accident near the Navyug Tunnel NG-44 in Qazigund, Kulgam district, claimed one life and left four others injured, including a Special Police Officer (SPO). The incident occurred on Monday evening when a MG Hector vehicle, bearing registration number JK01AL 0707, lost control due to overspeeding and skidded off the road.

Details of the Accident

The deceased has been identified as Zubair Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Hameed Wani, a resident of Heerpora, Shopian. The injured include:

  • Irshad Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Rehman Mir
  • Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, son of Gh Mohammad Dalal
  • Umar Bashir Najar, son of Bashir Ahmad Najar, all residents of Shopian
  • SPO Showkat Ahmad, who was injured after the vehicle struck him near his post.

All the injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have confirmed that the condition of the injured is stable.

The police have taken cognizance of the accident and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the mishap. Overspeeding has been identified as the primary cause of the accident, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations in the region.
