Religious Slogans in J&K Assembly: BJP and NC Lock Horns

J&K BJP Chief Accuses NC of Destabilising Kashmir with Religious Slogans in Assembly”

Srinagar 12 April 2025: In a heated political exchange, Jammu and Kashmir BJP Chief Sunil Sharma accused the National Conference (NC) of attempting to destabilize the region by raising religious slogans during the recently concluded Budget session of the Assembly. Sharma alleged that NC members disrupted the proceedings by chanting “nara-e-takbeer” (God is great), which he claimed was an attempt to provoke and misguide the public.

Speaking at a press conference, Sharma criticized the NC for what he described as “creating religious divisions” and reminded them that the Assembly is a “temple of the Constitution of India.” He further accused the NC of failing to fulfill its promises during its six-month tenure, including providing free ration, electricity, and employment.

The controversy erupted after NC members demanded a debate on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which they opposed vehemently. The Speaker, citing the sub-judice nature of the matter, refused to entertain the motion, leading to commotion in the House. BJP members countered the NC’s slogans with chants of “Jai Shri Ram,” escalating tensions further.

Sharma also highlighted the BJP’s commitment to peace and development in the region, contrasting it with what he called the NC’s history of governance failures. He urged the NC to focus on constructive policies rather than divisive rhetoric.

The incident has sparked widespread debate, with political analysts questioning the implications of religious sloganeering in legislative assemblies and its impact on the region’s fragile peace.
