05 Civilians killed in fresh firing, 31 injured; Curfew, Protests continues on 39th Day, Death toll rises to 65Curfew and separatist shutdown continued in Kashmir on Tuesday for the 39th consecutive day as the toll in the ongoing unrest rose to 65. Five civilians were killed and at least 31 injured on Tuesday after security forces fired on protesters in two separate incidents in south and central Kashmir taking the death toll to 65 in the valley.
According to the police control room in Budgam, four people were killed by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel when they opened fire on protesters at Aripanthan area of Beerwah in central Budgam district. At least 15 people were also injured in the firing.
In another incident, a man succumbed to a bullet injury in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Chief medical officer of Anantnag district, Dr Fazil Kochak, told Hindustan Times that the man sustained the injury in a firing by security during a protest in Dehalgam area.
Kochak added 16 more people have been injured.
Former chief minister Omar Abdullah ?tweeted about the deaths on Tuesday and Monday and criticised the central government for talking about Balochistan.
“6 protesters dead in Kashmir in 24 hours but WTH let’s go sort out Balochistan since we are doing such a good job in J&K at the moment!!!” Abdullah tweeted.
Beerwah, where at least four deaths and 15 injuries were reported, is Abdullah’s constituency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted Pakistan, without naming the neighbour, in his Independence Day speech, saying people from Balochistan, Gilgit and Pakistan occupied Kashmir had thanked him for giving voice to their problems.

Monday violence
The valley has been extremely tense after two people died on Monday and a 10-year-old was critically injured after being hit by a tear gas shell in Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Sixteen-year-old Yasir Sheikh from Batmaloo area in Srinagar was killed when forces opened fire on protesters in the area on Monday. Medical superintendent of Srinagar’s SMHS hospital, Dr Nazir Choudhary, told Kashmir Post that the Class 10 student was brought to the hospital with a bullet injury.
Riyaz Ahmad,18, from Tangmarg also succumbed to injuries sustained during a clash last week at Srinagar’s SKIMS hospital in the morning.
Batamaloo remained extremely tense on Monday evening as Sheikh’s body was brought back to his home.
As the country celebrated its 70th Independence Day on Monday, a CRPF commandant and two militants were killed in a gunfight near a famous Sufi shrine in downtown Srinagar. Nine security personnel were also wounded, three of them critically, and were shifted to AIIMS hospital in Delhi.
The CRPF said in a statement that its troops came under fire and grenade attack at four places in Srinagar – at Nowhatta Chowk, Gojwara Chowk, Bata Gali and Khaniyar Chowk.
Separately, the Indian Army said five militants were gunned down while trying to sneak into India from Pakistan. The infiltration bid was made along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector in northern Kashmir.
Kashmir has been under curfew after Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani’s death on July 8 triggered a wave of protests in the valley.
