Youth dies in Police custody, Magisterial probe ordered, Shutdown, Clashes in Awantipora, Downtown Srinagar

A youth from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district died in a police custody in Srinagar on Tuesday.
A senior Police officer confirmed the incident while talking to Kashmir Post.
“An individual has died (in custody). He was held in a militacy-related case. We will share the details after sometime,” he said.

According to reports the deceased youth has been identified as Rizwan Asad of Awantipora in Pulwama.
The death took place during intervening night of 18 and 19 March, reports said.
Quoting a Police officer, a local news agency GNS reported that Police have requested for magisterial inquiry under 176 CrPc to initiate the thorough probe to ascertain the actual cause of the death.

Amid a spontaneous shutdown, clashes erupted between youth and government forces in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday following the custodial death of a school teacher.
All shops and business establishments were closed while traffic went off the roads in the area, reports said.

Witnesses said thousands of people thronged the residence of deceased youth soon after the news about his death reached the area.
Meanwhile, authorities have suspended the Internet service on mobile phones as a “precautionary measure” to prevent spiralling of tensions.

The deceased was a private school teacher and was detained by forces in connection with the Lethpora attack case three days ago, reports said.
The police department has requested a magisterial inquiry under Section 176 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to ascertain the cause and circumstances leading to Rizwan’s death.
A separate police investigation has also been initiated into the incident.

Police has launched an investigation to ascertain the cause and circumstances of death of a youth in its custody in Srinagar.
Police spokesman said one “suspect” Rizwan Pandit, a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama was in police custody in connection a militancy case investigation.

“The said person died in police custody,” he said.
While following the procedure laid down in section 176 of crpc a magisterial enquiry is underway, Police spokesman said.
“Separately police investigation has also been initiated in the jurisdictional area of incident.”
