Days after PDP president Mehbooba Mufti during a public rally here hinted tough action against youth indulging in stone pelting, local administration has booked three youths under Public Safety Act, a legislation termed as “lawless law” by Amnesty International. The action follows detention of 4 persons including a man for leading funeral prayers of LeT’s Kashmir commander, Abu Qasim in south Kashmir.
Official sources said local administration on a dossier by police on Thursday, the deputy commissioner ordered detention under PSA, an extra-judicial law, of the three youths of Palhallan Pattan in Baramulla district over their participation in protests.
Official sources told GNS that the youth have been identified as Adil Ahmad Gojri son of Lal Mohammad, Nazir Ahmad Gojri son of Mohammad Sadiq of Gojri Mohalla Palhallan and Basit Ahmad Peer son of Ghulam Mohammad Peer of Raypora Palhallan.
The sources said that Nazir was detained on 24 November while other two on 9 November for their participation in pro-freedom and anti-India protests.
All of them have been arrested in connection with an FIR no. 116/2015 u/s 147,148,149,336,427,307 RPC, they said. “The trio has been booked under PSA No. 02/DMB/PSA/2015.”
While Adil has been shifted to Kathua, Basit and Nazir have been lodged Srinagar’s central jail and Kupwara Jail respectively.
A legal expert said that their lodgment was against Supreme Court direction whereby a detainee has to be lodged in a jail nearby his residence. A police officer declined to comment while a senior government official told GNS that administration has decided to go tough against “trouble mongers.”
“Nobody will be allowed to disrupt peace and as such the government has decided to act tough against all the trouble-mongers,” the official said. (GNS)
