Expressing concern over ever growing unemployment in Chenab valley region, the unemployed youth of this mountainous district have sought early resumption of work on Rattle Hydroelectric Power project.
A group of skilled and unskilled youths, currently looking for jobs, said they could have got decent employment if work on the 850-MW project was started by the executing agency.
“The project has a great potential of absorbing local youth while non-execution of the project is also causing loss by way of non-utilization power generation potential”, they said.
“Unemployment is growing by the day and being qualified professionals, we could have helped build the power project at our native place”, said a local youth having qualified civil engineering.
They also expressed concern over the executing companies’ hesitation in employing local youth. “Preference should be given to local skilled and unskilled unemployed youth while recruiting manpower for the power project, as the same was agreed in principle by the management while signing the MoU with the state government”, said Nadeem Ahmad, a local youth.
The youth urged the government to ensure early resumption of work on the project and stress for absorption of local unemployed youth in the project.
