Won’t allow resolution on Afzal Guru, says BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said that it won’t allow any ‘anti-national’ resolution or bill in the Assembly during the upcoming budget session.
Reacting to the proposed resolutions of MLA from North Kashmir’s Langate constituency, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, seeking remains of Afzal Guru and release of political prisoners, the BJP chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi told reporters that his party will not allow any such or other ‘anti- national’ move in the session.
Er Rashid has moved two resolutions in the Assembly seeking return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru and release of all political prisoners ‘to create conducive atmosphere for peace in the state’.
Disclosing party’s strategy for Budget Session, Sunil Sethi, said that party would thwart every effort being made by ‘vested interests’ to vitiate peace and tranquility of the state.
“The party will not allow any resolution on return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru and release of all political prisoners in the house” he said.
“By moving the resolution for return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru, who was hanged as per the judgment of court and whose conviction was upheld by Supreme Court, Er Rashid is trying to make hero out of a traitor , which will give fresh impetus to dying militancy and BJP will never allow this,” he said.
He said, “If his (Afzal) mortal remains are brought to the state, it will create a new fear centre and rallying point for anti national forces to be used by militants and separatists to carry forward their nefarious agenda.”
Sunil Sethi said that this is testing time for alliance partners to stand strongly together ‘to defeat forces which are creating conducive atmosphere for militancy and separatism to rise again’.
“Strategy should be formulated jointly before hand to deal with situation” he said.
