Woman killed, 4 including BSF man injured in Pak firing in Akhnoor
A woman was killed and four others including a Border Security Force (BSF) man injured when Pakistani Rangers fired on BSF posts and civilian areas along International Border (IB) in Akhnoor and Kana Chak area in Jammu province on Wednesday, BSF said.

BSF sources said border guard Anjali Kumar, 42, son of Lal Chand of Uttar Pradesh was standing outside the bunker at Border out Post Sidherwan in Akhnoor sector this morning, when he was hit by a bullet fired from sniper by Pakistani troops.

“He sustained bullet injury in the lower portion (hip) on,” they said.
They said Pakistani troops fired on BSF posts along IB in Gadkhal forward area. “The BSF men guarding the border effectively returned the fire from small arms”.
They said as India and Pakistani troops were exchanging heavy fire in Sidherwan forward area, Pakistani Rangers pounded a civilian area Bhalwal Bharth with mortar shells.
“A woman, who was working in the lawn of her house, died of splinter injuries she sustained after mortar shell exploded there. Three other civilians including a woman were also injured in the same village,” BSF sources said.
The deceased woman was identified as Poli Devi, 42, of Bhalwal Bharth.
The injured were shifted to GMC Hospital, Jammu for specialized treatment.
“In view of heavy exchange of fire along the IB, authorities stopped vehicular movement on Jammu-Pragwal road for some time to avoid any loss of human life,” sources said.
BSF sources said Pakistani Rangers fired on civilian areas and BOP from two posts —  Bor and Dera.
“Pakistani Rangers also fired on BSF posts in Pragwal with small arms and the intermittent firing continued till 4:15 pm,” they said.
Sources said Pakistani Rangers also fired mortar shells on civilian areas in Kana Chak area. “The shells missed the targets and landed in isolated areas. BSF and Pak Rangers also exchanged small arms fire in Kana Chak area”.
They said one shell landed in the house of Parveen Singh son of Amar Singh. “Another exploded in a field and two more shells landed in isolated place.”
The fresh firing between Indian and Pakistani troops caused panic among people living in the border villages. However, there has been no migration from the border villages yet.
