Mysterious Death of a youth triggers protest in Maisuma

Protests rocked Maisuma locality in city centre here on Sunday after body of a missing local youth was recovered in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Mysterious Death of a youth triggers protest in MaisumaThe youth identified as Owais Ahmad Fafoo (17) alias Patel son of Muhammad Ismail of Mandir Bagh was missing since July 18. Protests erupted at Maisuma soon after body of Owais was fished out from river Jhelum at Sumbal.
Soon scores of people assembled at Maisuma and staged protests against the mysterious death. Demanding investigation into the matter, the protestors tried to march towards Lal Chowk. However, police swung into action bursting dozens of tear smoke canisters to disperse the protestors.
Reports said the protestors offered a stiff resistance fighting pitched battle with police. The ding-dong battle was going on at Maisuma till reports last came in.
Family members of Owais alleged that there were torture marks on his body. “He has been beaten and later thrown into the river,” the family members told .
Police has detained one of the friends of Owais and said more arrests are on cards.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, Amit Kumar said a case has been registered and investigation has been started into the matter. “Postmortem of the body was carried out.  We have got some clues but are thoroughly investigating the matter. Things will be clear in day or two,” the SSP said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people including the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik participated in the Nimaz-e-Janaza of Owais.
