KREDA using renewable energy sources to reduce carbon emission in KargilFrom the last many years Ladakh has been witnessing untimely rain, snowfall and flash-flood.
According to experts this is the effect global warming and in the next 30 to 40 years Ladakh will be facing acute water shortage.
Although government is trying its best to conserve environment in Ladakh region, in Kargil, KREDA has also been working from the last many years to devise ways to do away with the dependence on diesel generators to save environment.
They are busy in devising ways to provide energy through renewable sources which in turn will help in reducing the pollution in the region.
According to Project Director KREDA, Kacho Ahmad Khan, the agency has installed SPV Power Plants in nearly 22 more remote villages.
Before the intervention of KREDA the villagers were receiving electricity from their respective DG sets.
From all these power plants, KREDA is producing a total of 1385 KW of electricity, helping in reducing the consumption of 36,29,772, ltr of diesel in a year which in turns is giving economic benefit of Rs 18,14,88,600.
This in turn helps in reducing the emission of 9292.2 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere.
KREDA is working toawrds  tapping renewable energy by making SPV Power Plants, small hydro projects, and Solar Nano Grids using DC Currents, Wind Energy, and Thermal Energy etc, Kacho said, adding  that with the commissioning of two hydro projects by them  this year the carbon emission control will increase as two hydero projects in Biaras Drass and Sangrah Suru having a capacity of 1500 KW each, will power 2200 households which will again replaces many DG sets.
