Chenani – Nashri tunnel opens to weeklong trial run
The country’s longest 9.25-km road tunnel was thrown open for vehicles on a trial basis this evening.
At the Nashri end of the tunnel, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mohammad Aijaz flagged off the Jammu-bound vehicles, while Ashutosh Chandwar, Regional Head, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS), flagged off the Srinagar-bound vehicles on the Chenani end in the presence of the engineers and managers of the IL&FS, NH-1A and other ancillary concerns.
According to the project director, IL&FS, JS Rathore, under the weeklong trial run, the tunnel would remain open for all vehicles, except oil and gas tankers and the vehicles carrying fodder, for one hour daily for the first three days, which would then be increased.
