Resistance group calls for 2 Day Shutdown, Hails people for boycott; asks NC, PDP to apologize to people

Hailing people for boycotting the bypolls to Lok Sabha parliamentary seat, joint Hurriyat leadership Sunday called for complete shutdown on April 10 and 11 against killing of eight civilians in forces firing on poll day.
In a joint statement, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik strongly condemned eight civilian killings in Beerwah, Pakharpora, Budgam and Ganderbal.
They termed the killings as “act of state terrorism” and expressed deep sorrow over the killing of unarmed civilians and injuries to hundreds others.
They asked people to observe complete shutdown on Monday and Tuesday against the civilian killings.
“Boycott in central Kashmir serves an eye opener for Indian rulers and is a clear a message that people will never accept the forced occupation .It is a best precedence for people in South Kashmir and they too should stay away from this election drama and follow the precedence set by people in central Kashmir,” the leaders said and asked people in South Kashmir to boycott parliamentary elections on April 12 .
While hailing people for their boycott, they said, “Complete boycott and shutdown vindicates that they rejected the deceitful politics of state rulers. We won’t allow these henchmen to bargain against sacred blood of the martyrs.”
“The movement is in its crucial stage. After peoples uprising in 2016, a new trend has set in and people, especially youth are enough mature to differentiate between well-wishers and those favoring Indian authorities,” the leaders said.
They said it is quite encouraging that people in J&K are conveying a message that India continues its presence in the State through its military might only.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik asked the NC and PDP leaders to apologize for their wrongdoings. “They should join us in our fight for right to self determination. It is a best opportunity for them to join us or they won’t find even a burial place here and will meet the same fate as that of Mir Jaffer and Mir Sadiq”.
They appealed international community to take cognizance of civilian killings in Kashmir. “Their continued silence and turning eyes from the grave human rights violations in Kashmir is disheartening”.
The leaders further said Kashmiris should not expect any humanity from Government of India. “The local mainstream parties aid and abet the genocide and PDP has completely become morally bankrupt and lost all sense of shame and sensitivity to the pain and suffering and concerns of the people of Kashmir”.
“In this scenario of severe repression, people gave clear message today to GoI and the world that their goal is right to self determination and they cannot be cowed down,” they said.
“We salute and acknowledge the resilience and steadfastness of the brave people especially our youth. Their supreme sacrifices of life and limb deeply grieve us but also strengthen our commitment towards our mission,” they said.
The leaders said as the whole valley has been turned into a big jail manned by Indian forces and police and people and leadership caged, the only way left of them was to express the collective grief and share the sorrow of the bereaved families.
