Stone Pelting incidents have come down across Valley: CRPF

The number of stone-throwing incidents in the Kashmir valley has come down this year and this time we used less lethal weapons and had minimum collateral damages, said CRPF Director General Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar today.
“So far in 2017, only 424 stone-throwing incidents have been reported in comparison with 1,600 incidents last year,” said the Director General, CRPF, during the 78th anniversary celebrations of the CRPF.
Giving credit to the security forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central agencies, the DG said: “The combined efforts of the security forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police and all agencies, including the National Investigation Agency, have made this possible.”
While left-wing extremism remains an area of concern for the internal security of the country, there has been a significant improvement in the security since last year, said the DG.
In the last few months, unprecedented improvement has been seen in the left-wing extremism scenario and there has been an overall reduction in violence and increase in surrenders in the Naxal-hit area, he further said.
In a recent development, the CRPF is also said to be raising one Bastariyabn comprising tribals of South Bastar who have good knowledge of the local language, terrain and modus operandi of the Maoist outfits. “This will provide tactical advantage to the force in fighting the Maoists and also bring the tribals into the mainstream,” the DG said.
Meanwhile, the DG praised the role of the J&K Police’s intelligence wing in south Kashmir. “With the combined effort, the ground position in the Valley is in control today.”
