Are Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik next? Time will decide, says DGP

Commenting on the recent arrest of several Hurriyat leaders by National Investigation Agency (NIA), director general of police SP Vaid on Wednesday said that time will decide the fate of senior Hurriyat leaders, referring to Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
He said that people of Kashmir have right to know who is responsible for bloodshed in Kashmir. “I can’t say anything about further arrests, especially of senior Hurriyat leaders at this time. Time only will decide,” said SP Vaid while replying to media questions during a function at district police lines Baramulla.

He said ground situation in Kashmir is changing fast and normalcy has been restored to a great extent across Kashmir.
The DGP said recent Hurriyat call over the arrests had no response and people didn’t pay any heed to the call. “People have rejected Hurriyat call which was evident from the response to the Hurriyat call. People want peace and better working atmosphere.”
He said that situation in north Kashmir was in control and several militants had been killed in anti-militancy operations.

About the number of militants operating across Kashmir, the director general said the number of foreign militants in north Kashmir is more as maximum parts of north Kashmir are infiltration routes.
The DGP visited Range Police Headquarters Baramulla to reward and honour the personnel who contributed in anti-militancy operations in Baramulla-Kupwara-Bandipora Range.
These men were hounoured at a function held in District Police Lines Baramulla. The event, among others was attended by IGP Kashmir, IGP North Kashmir Range, AIG (P), AIG (P&T), AIG (Buildings) PHQ, District SsP, Addl. SsP and other senior police officers of the range.
Complementing the personnel for their efforts in maintenance of law & order and also achievements on anti-militancy front, the DGP said that police efforts to wipe out militancy for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in the valley will continue.
He said because of the good work 134 SPOs of North Kashmir Range have been absorbed as constables in the department. He added that to boost the morale of jawans and officers, 154 police personnel of the range have been granted out of turn promotion in different ranks.
