Geelani Calls Strike On Saturday

Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has called for strike on Saturday against the supply of spurious drugs to Kashmir hospitals.

According to a statement issued here, a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said, “The strike on April 20 (Saturday) is against the genocide of Kashmiris through fake drugs supplied to the hospitals. We will do our best to highlight the issue as it is the question of lives of people.”
The Hurriyat spokesman said Government was playing a dubious role by not unveiling the people behind the fake drug racket. “The Government wants to save its chair by backing those involved in the genocide of Kashmiris through fake drugs,” the spokesman said.
In a separate statement, Geelani said, “Since the supply of spurious medicines to Kashmir hospitals is directly linked to the planned genocide of Kashmiris, we appeal to the International Red Cross and international human rights organizations to take serious cognizance of it and play their role in conducting an impartial investigation into it.”
Geelani said supplying fake medicines to only Kashmir hospitals proved that it was not an ordinary or a normal case but a part of Kashmiris’ ‘genocide’ which, according to him, is going on at the hands of Government of India for several decades now. “Since New Delhi’s policy-makers only want that the military control on the State should continue, they are least bothered about the supply of deadly poison in the name of medicines to Kashmir. This fake drug scandal is directly linked with the death of hundreds of children in GB Pant Hospital here and the former health minister Sham Lal Sharma and chairman purchase committee are obviously responsible for it. An FIR should be registered against them and they should be brought to justice,” he said, adding, “Investigation in the scandal by any Government agency will tantamount to making the murderer the judge.”
Geelani hailed Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) for raising its voice against the scandal. “By highlighting the scandal, the doctors of Kashmir have really done a great job and discharged their moral and professional responsibility in a nice way,” he said.
Geelani termed as unfortunate the ‘silence’ maintained by the State Government over the serious issue. “Since the people responsible for this scandal have direct say in the Centre, the State Chief Minister does not open his mouth for fear of losing his job. This kind of politics and expediency is serious crime,” Geelani said.
