Family seeks release, alleges torture

A Kashmiri youth who is known as ‘Islamic Rage Boy’ has been languishing in Central Jail for the past five years. The family members of Shakeel Ahmed Bhat resident of Malik Angan Fateh Kadal Srinagar told CNS that Shakeel was arrested by the government in 2009 on the charges of organizing protests against police, and since then he is languishing in the jail.
 “12th PSA has been slapped on Shakeel despite the fact the he never resorted to violence or stone-pelting,” the family members said.
 They slammed authorities for framing fabricated charges and slapping PSA against Bhat. The family added that the authorities were ignoring Bhat’s constitutional rights and subjecting him to the worst kind of state terrorism.
 They said that right from 1994, Shakeel has for the most of the time remained under custody. “An injury to his right arm as a result of the torture had left him unable to lift anything and authorities consider him as a threat,” they said and appealed the authorities to release Shakeel Ahmed without any delay.
 Meanwhile, Democratic Political Movement General Secretary Advocate Muhammad Shafi Reshi condemned the continuous detention of Shakeel Ahmed Bhat and demanded his immediate release from the jail. CNS
