Geelani calls for shutdown on Nov 20

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Thursday called for complete shutdown on November 20 against the proposed visit of Prime Minister NarendraModi to Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Geelani urged people to protest Modi’s visit. “We are committed to the election
boycott campaign and it will continue despite arrest of pro-freedom leaders and activists,” he said.
Geelani alleged that state administration has unleashed a “reign of terror” by arresting youths and party activists ahead of the “so-called elections.”
Referring to devastation caused by the recent floods in Kashmir, Geelani strongly criticized state authorities for their “negligence and uncaring attitude” towards the flood affected people.
Terming “mass arrests” as “unjustified and unlawful”, he said, “These youth are on run for shelter and safety. The administration should answer why our youth are being harassed and tortured for none of their fault.”
Geelani urged people to register their protest after Friday prayers against “highhandedness and barbaric approach of police and state authorities.”
He urged lawyers, religious heads, transporters, business community, students, teachers and all pro-freedom parties to join the protest demonstrations.
