MeT predicts rainfall for 3 days

‘No need to panic, flood threat negligible’
MeT predicts rainfall for 3 daysThe Meteorological department Tuesday predicted moderate rain and thundershowers in the state for next three days.
However, it said the rains would not cause flood-like situation.
Assistant Meteorologist, F A Bhat told us that moderate rain and thundershowers would occur at most places in the state in next three days.
“Due to Western Disturbances, there will be a continuous rainfall in most parts of the Valley for next three days,” he said.
Bhat, however, said chances of floods are almost negligible and people should not panic. “There is no need to worry. The intensity of rain is less and as such there is no chance of any floods”.
The weather, he said, will remain dry from May 15.
Bhat said there has been an increase in precipitation in March and April this year.
“The maximum rainfall that we have received in March was 365 mm in 1983. This time around we have received 300 mm which is more than 100 mm than previous few years,” he said.
Bhat said the Western Disturbances in last few months has been the main cause of increase in precipitation this year.
“There have been more frequent Western Disturbances this time around in comparison to last few years. The water vapour emerging from mediterranean sea has disturbed the weather system in the valley,” he said.
A Weather department official said Srinagar received 1.1 mm rainfall since morning while Pahalgam received 3.0 mm rainfall.
In Kokernag 4.2 mm rain was recorded, while in Kupwara 9.0 mm rain was recorded.
