In(equitable) ‘development’: Srinagar to get Rs 65 cr, Jammu Rs 193 cr

The PDP-BJP government is treading the path of previous National Conference-Congress regime in allocating funds for development in Srinagar district.

In(equitable) ‘development’ - Srinagar to get Rs 65 cr, Jammu Rs 193 crThis is notwithstanding its claim that it is changing the funding pattern and ensuring equitable development of all regions of the state.

According to official sources, Srinagar would get least funding under the district-sector capital expenditure which would be approved during the District Development Board (DDB) meeting on July 6.

The State’s Planning & Development department has conveyed to the district administration that it would get Rs 65 crore for undertaking developmental works in the current year—almost three times less than the proposed allocation for Jammu district.

According to tentative ceilings, Jammu would get Rs 193 crore under district-sector for the ongoing financial year.

The figures reveal that newly carved out districts like Samba and Reasi will getting more funds than Srinagar.  The budgetary allocation for Samba is Rs 86 crore and that of ReasiRs 141 crore.

PDP MLA from Srinagar and Minister of State in Mufti Muhammad Sayeed-led  government, Muhammad Ashraf Mir, described the proposed allocation for Srinagar as “meager and injustice with people of the city.”

“We require at least Rs 200 crore (under district sector) for undertaking reconstruction in flood–hit areas of the city,” he said.  “The infrastructure in the city has been badly hit due to last year’s devastating floods.”
